An excellent book from a field practitioner who examines the profession from the trenches. He takes a hard look at the tools and techniques that can be employed in order to make you the “Ultimate Consultant”.  The book is a refreshing update on techniques and will be of tremendous value to both new members of the profession and experienced practitioners.

The book examines the emerging trends and techniques in management consulting and provides a very holistic view of the profession.  The experienced practitioner is more likely to enjoy Section 3 of the book on the tools and techniques, whilst an enjoyable read some aspects are a bit motherhood.

Examines the use of building a large network of Experts (Crowdsourcing) and gaining expert opinion over a wide and diverse resource base. Aim is more rounded, more balanced and better informed information.  May be argued that it lacks the personal touch of more 1:1 attention of an individual subject matter expert.

A definitive source of knowledge that covers all aspects of Management Consulting as a profession. A truly comprehensive reference book on tools and techniques of the Consultant. Some 480 pages of in depth coverage that the uninitiated might find somewhat daunting. Not recommended for the uninitiated.

This is the  de facto guide to Management Consulting covering the entire spectrum of methods, techniques, governance and body of knowledge.  It does feel a little dated though and suffers from the gap in knowledge acquisition over the last 20 years or so.
