The United States has a total urban population of 82% (Malmgren & Meisel, 2004). The poor who are living below the poverty line are considered only this when their annual income is less than $18,000 (“US Census Bureau”, 2005). The statistics of the urban poor in the United States are between 12-13%. These people are the working poor, and the underclass. Usually, these people rely on government transfers. These people who are considered below the poverty line have some or no education, deeming them under qualified for a large number of jobs. Violent crimes have risen throughout the years, and statistics show that almost 50% of all violent crimes are committed by those under the age of 25, and of all the arrests made, 15% of these violent crimes are made by those living in the urban poor areas (Malmgren & Meisel, 2004). 78% of the delinquents arrested are caught in truancy and are said to have no intention of pursuing education. 30-50% of these delinquents have educational disorders (Malmgren & Meisel, 2004).

Weather vs. Senior Citizen population

The demographics for the senior citizen population of the United States if found concentrated in certain areas. According to Census Scope (2011), the senior citizen population tends to be higher in Florida as well as the South West. These are generally warmer areas in the United States. Statistics show that 20.7-34.7% of the senior citizen population of the United States is seen in warmer areas, as compared to a low 0.0-8.6% in coder areas such as Alaska.
