Discuss one current issue that poses a challenge for probation officers. Describe how this issue can be effectively addressed.

Of course there are many issues that face probation officers on a daily basis, one of the most difficult of which would have to be that of difficult probationers. There is constantly an issue of whether or not they will actually be checking in, showing up at all, and simply doing what they’re supposed to do; toeing the line and staying within specific boundaries. One of the easiest ways to address this, perhaps, is to instigate harsher punishment structures for when the rules are violated. Additionally, it doesn’t hurt to get semi- close to the probationer. In the event that a relationship can be established, they may work harder to stay on the straight path simply out of respect for a potential friend.

Select and discuss the various types of community supervision that are utilized within a specific state. What challenges does that state face in implementing this form of parole? Identify those programs that are more traditional and others that may be non-traditional or more recently developed. What challenges or needs do both types address?

Many of the cities within the state of Georgia combine Community Impact Programs, along with traditional probationer supervision, to keep an eye out for the goings- on around the state; designed to specifically shadow high risk offenders, the Community Impact Programs, which are located in the probation offices, works with police enforcement to return the offender to society through counseling services and other various treatments. Of course there is still the issue of whether or not probations do not just disappear all together off the radar. This would be a more traditional program in that everyone is working to keep the community safe from crime and recidivism. This particular program provides more people to keep taps on offenders so that they have less of an opportunity to behave poorly without being reprimanded immediately.
