It seems to me, and rather early in my educational career, that education itself is a process that defines itself as it moves along. More exactly, choices present themselves as the education moves forward, which serve to encourage a more specific path. A student essentially comes to learn what it is that they most want to study and, for me, this has revealed itself as a growing interest in the field of zoology.

It is not easy to fully explain what creates a fascination, or a passion for a certain kind of learning, because so many elements go into it. On one level, and even in my high school career, I have become aware that I possess an aptitude for the field; knowledge regarding it comes to me more easily, and is far more successfully retained. This advantage, of course, is tied to my innate enjoyment of the study. For me, a cycle has already been set in motion, in that zoology study consistently whets my appetite for more of the same. Then, I feel that there may come to the student a sense of “rightness” about the pursuit. With myself, this translates to a visceral awareness that zoology is a discipline to which I can significantly contribute, provided I accept how much study and energy the work requires. This, I already do.

Zoology is an enormously vast field of study, and my passion for it does not blind me to the fact that excellence within can only be achieved through specific focuses on specific components. I do not yet know what these will be for me. I am very intrigued by how zoology is an integral science in today’s understanding of species and extinction rates, which in turn goes to vital environmental concerns. I am as well drawn to studying how evolution occurs; even before our eyes, modern insights and technologies are capturing evidence of this unfolding all around us, and in a variety of species. What I can state with absolute confidence, however, is that the multiple sciences within zoology are where my ambition lies. I know this to be true because, in this field, I am eager to begin by learning how much there is to learn.
