The paper presents the Paleo-Eskimo settlements in Northern and Eastern Arctic through the model developed to generally describe colonisation strategy. The investigation of the model in question gives us an opportunity to test different patterns of settlement types in order to further substantiate any distinct differences between these patterns according to settling into uninhabited and inhabited landscapes. The study of the large-scale settlement in Labrador is verified by the use of various archaeological published and unpublished recorded documents. The authors suggest that the presence of other occupants (Labrador Archaic settlements) had an undeviating effect on Pre-Dorset colonization strategy in Labrador. In my opinion this specific interpretation is fascinating due to the fact that older Labrador Archaic settlements at Sagdlek Bay probably have assisted the Pre-Dorset to comprehend their environment and, moreover, allowed them to build up productive settlement strategies. Nonetheless, I do not think this interpretation correlates well with the evidence. Another point is the big amount of Pre-Dorset sites in Labrador (a few of them have been found so far). On the other hand, from the readers’ perspective we do not know what these sites indicate, and, consequently, based on the authors’ methodological point of view, it seems quite reasonable that they narrowed down the sites and only included those sites that had certain relationship to the culture.
