Wiki has become web slang for users-generated content and none other than Wikipedia should be credited for introducing the concept of wiki. Wikipedia is the most convincing proof that users motivated by learning do a remarkably effective job of content creation without any centralized controls. Wikipedia is the 8^th most visited website on the World Wide Web (Alexa). A study revealed that despite de-centralized content creation format, Wikipedia came close to Britannica in terms of the accuracy of scientific articles (Giles, 15 December 2005).

A class wiki will be based on the idea that students together will come across more interesting articles and will post more diversified ideas than is possible for an individual to learn on his own. Everyone will be expected to post only few articles and ideas yet they will all have access to the whole depository of ideas and articles. The ultimate staying power of the class wiki could only be ensure if the students are able to observe the benefits themselves. Wiki will serve as one-stop website for all the needs of the class whether lectures notes, assignments, articles, or a discussion board. In addition, automatic news alerts may be added to the wiki that will automatically add news on subject matters related to the coursework from multiple websites just as google alerts do.

There are different websites that are attempting to exploit the potential of a wiki website and offer useful suggestions for our class wiki. Class wiki will also make communication speedier and more up-to-date by enabling users to post messages on communication board and allow everyone else to see the updates immediately. In addition, it will also allow edits to previous posts and thus, avoiding the need of unnecessary long communication chains as in emails (Common Craft, LLC).

Similarly, a blog can be setup where anyone will be free to post his thoughts about the progress of the class anonymously to ensure noone hesitates to raise their most important concerns. This will help imrpove the communication between the instructors and the students and also lead to a more productive working relationship. The wiki will also help instructors since students can simply post assignments on the wiki instead of handing them in person or emailing them. Moreover, they will also assignment graders quicker.

The wiki will also help student groups to collaborate on projects. Live messenger feature may be added to the wiki where students can chat with each other or they can directly communicate with the instructors. This will be convenient for both the instructors and the students since it will eliminate the need for in-person appointments and can be done from anywhere as long as there is internet access available.

The wiki may also have podcast section where recording of the lecture notes will be posted. The lectures notes will be downloadable so students could uploaded them on their digital devices also. There will also be a links section where links to other useful websites, blogs, and research sources may be posted that will complement the class material. The students contribution to the class wiki could be encouraged with bonus points for active participation in discussion board as well as articles sharing.
