The article analyses the value given to the plants and trees by Augustus in embellishment of his villas. Moreover, the emperor applied the symbolic message of plants to corroborate the theory of his divine origin (the palm sprung up in front of his house was replanted to the inner court as evidence of Augustus being the son of Apollo and the rebirth of the stated attributed to his ruling). The Augustan proprietorship of nature and coherent representation of plants and trees are shown vividly in the Garden Room of Livia’s Villa at Prima Porta. Besides skillful creation of the outdoor garden illusion, combination of order and disorder, the Room implies the encoded message of the fertility of Augustus state with assumed order.
