The Boxer is a wonderful breed of a dog, but not everyone knows their history, behaviors, and how they bond with the people around them. People are always saying how hyper they are, but they are not. They are just playful. I have been around many breeds and I have found that the boxer is the best choice for a family. I have seen the smaller breeds, such as, Chihuahua and Yorkies raised by my aunt. They tend to be very bossy and yappy. I have also owned a larger dog, the Rottweiler, and it is a very aggressive dog toward other animals. I have been a proud owner of a boxer puppy for five months now and I have loved every minute.
The Boxer, developed in Germany, is a breed of stocky, large size, short haired dog. They are brachycephalic (they have broad, short skulls), a square muzzle, they have an under bite, and they have a very strong jaw and a powerful bite. They were bred from the Old English Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser. The Boxer was introduced in 1894 by three German men, Friedrich Robert, Elard Konig, and R. Hopner. They were the first to enter the Boxer in a dog show as an exhibit. By 1904 the Boxer breed standards was published. In the turn of the 20th century the Boxers was introduced to the United States. During the World War I, the Boxer was used as a messenger dog, pack-carrier, attack dog, and guard dogs. It wasn’t until after WWII they became known around the world. Boxers have not been around very long, but they have become a household name. Although, they might have a very strong jaw and bite, they make wonderful pets.
