Communication has always been vital in the life of people. Interpersonal communication, either simple talk or complicated negotiations, is essential to progress in both your personal and business life. Human beings always strived to success in every single aspect of their lives, and communication (any type of it), was probably the first on their list. Consequently, Maslow created five basic human needs, which have to be satisfied one by one in order to succeed. The first one is a Physiological Need that is not quite related to communication, however, the biological needs are the base for any types of activity, and communication is not an exception. The Safety Need comes next, when the human’s mind is free from the physiological need, and is mainly experienced by kids (the adults only experience it during emergencies). I, myself, have met this need in my early childhood when I was afraid of darkness and talked to my parents about that issue. The Need of Love, Affection and Belongingness is, I guess, experienced by anyone in the world. Whenever I feel lonely and friendless, I communicate with my parents or close friends, as far as I gain love from them, and they also get my love back, which is the main idea of this particular need. The Need for Esteem shows up, for instance, when I do my best at my tests or projects, because I want to gain self-respect and the respect of others. Needs for Self-Actualization is present in any person, due to the fact that every person is unique and has some talent, something that one can do better then others. Julian Wood’s need to perceive, tolerate, and understand is a key stone in communication. I come upon this need every single day of my life as far as students in our university are from different countries and cultures, and I have to try to satisfy all of them.
