Birth Rate vs. GDP

In the United States, the average number of children seen lies at around 2-3 per household. During the 1950s, the total fertility rate of an American woman was seen to peak at around 3.8 children per woman (Espenshade, et. al., 2003). Developed countries are showing to have very low birthrates due to the available birth control methods which are easily accessible and socially acceptable. Developed countries have higher mortality rates as well as have higher birth rates; this is due to the lack of access to contraceptives, as well as the families desiring to have more children to help with labor and ways to earn money. The overall fertility rate of the world’s population is 2.58 per woman, where an average person earns $10,400/ year. Remarkable findings are in the United States, where an average woman has 2.5 children and earns $46,900/ year. Ethiopia has an average birthrate of 6.12 and the earnings per year is an alarmingly low $800/ year. Whereas 6.53 children per woman are seen in a household which earns $700/ year in Afghanistan. The European Union is seen to have a total fertility rate of 1.51, where a household would typically earn $33,700/ year.
