Nearly sixty million people were killed during World War II, most of them civilians. Hundreds of thousands people saw their houses and families destroyed in just a few seconds. Consequently, all of them demanded revenge, and this factor played a crucial role in the world battle. While some of them found revenge in battle, most of the civilians, especially women and children, worked days and nights on plants and factories, producing weapons, bombs, clothing, ammunition, shells, food, parachutes, grenades, shoes, and other essential things for the warfare. It was a common sight for children to be on the roofs of the buildings, collecting bombs and shells that were about to explode and defusing them barehanded. They threw stones, sticks and boiled water on soldiers and died fighting as their parents. Most of the women were engaged in hospitals, taking care of thousands of helpless soldiers, brought from the battlefield. Overall, civilians played an essential role thought the whole period of World War II.
