Taking part in presidential elections, even from a voting perspective, is one of most essential rights of any citizen. Therefore, when a person finally reaches a voting age, a great responsibility falls on him, due to the fact that he/she can now make a difference in the country’s fate. Undoubtedly, before any election, we try to think of a candidate that would best suit our own needs and desires. We try to picture the best for him/her to take our lives into his/her hands and lead us to success. As far as I will be eligible to vote in 2008 presidential elections, here is what I will be looking for in a person who is going to take this post.
Firstly, I believe that a president has to be an excellent leader. This means that he/she should have a perfect character. It is of utmost importance that a leader is reliable to lead others. A leader ought to be trusted and be recognized to live their life with sincerity and uprightness, as far as true authority is born from appreciation for the good character and fidelity of the individual who shows the way. A good president is enthusiastic about their work or cause and about their position of a president as well. People will react more openly to a person of fervor and devotion. A decent president needs to be able to be a source of enthusiasm, and be a motivator towards the necessary action or affect. Even though the responsibilities and functions of a president may be diverse, the president needs to be seen to be part of the team operating in the direction of the objective. This kind of president will not be frightened to roll up his/her sleeves and get unclean.
A worthy president is confident. In order to lead and set paths a president needs to become visibly confident as a person and in the management position. Such a person inspires self-confidence in others and draws out the reliance and best efforts of the team to achieve the best results. A president who conveys confidence towards the proposed intention inspires the best attempt from team associates. A decent president is committed to superiority. “Second best does not lead to success” (Characteristics of a good leader). An ideal president not only preserves high standards, but is proactive in raising the bar in order to attain brilliance in all areas as well.
To be sincere, most of the time the mass media spoils the picture of a good president, no matter how good an advertisement is. This happens due to the fact that the media tries to create a perfect picture of a president, who the person is not in reality. We all have negative sides, weaknesses, and even the best candidate is not a saint, therefore, it only does harm to pertain that he/she is.
I have illustrated the basic traits that I want to see in the candidate for presidency. He/she should be a great leader, have character, values, and intelligence. I strongly believe that if a person like this appears in the list of candidates for presidency, I will definitely give my vote in support of this person.
