Pros and Cons of Barack Obama’s Policy – Essay Sample

Pros and Cons of Barack Obama’s Policy – Essay Sample

As a new leader of the nation Barack Obama has a lot of plans of how to improve current situation in the country and how to re-build our economy. During his presidential campaign Obama has given a lot of promises to lead the country out of the crisis and now he has to fulfill all of them.  As Unites States of America is facing now the severest financial and economical crisis since the times of the Second World War the newly elected president and his team have a really difficult mission before them. Those policies and plans that Barack Obama proposes are very ambitious, but they definitely have certain disadvantages about which we shouldn’t forget. I want to discuss pros and cons of Obama’s healthcare plan, restore our standing plan and immigration plan.

On one hand healthcare reform proposed by the new president strengthens employer coverage, makes insurance companies accountable and ensures patient choice of doctor and care without government interference. The plan will work in such a way that for those citizens who are satisfied with their current insurance plans nothing will change, except for the fact that they will be able to save up to $2,500 every year. But those people who nowadays can’t afford paying for the health insurance will be able to have a choice of a new, affordable health insurance options. On the other hand this plan sounds really great until we realize the fact that the government will have to spend huge amount of money to support low-income citizens and families and to provide them with cheap insurance health plans. Basically, the government itself will pay for their healthcare insurances. Eventually this program will turn out to be a terrible financial burden for the economy of the country (the government will have to spend minimum eight hundred billions of dollars every year), and therefore I think that the USA is not able to afford this program in the days of the crisis.

One of the main aspects of Obama’s Restore our Standing plan is to fight global poverty. Obama has a goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015 and for this reason he is planning to double American foreign assistance and to increase it to $50 billions. From one point of view this plan is really generous and it shows readiness of the United States of America to help undeveloped countries and their people. So from diplomatic point of view this plan is awesome, because it will definitely improve the image of our country in the world. But from another point of view this program is quite risky. In our present position we must think first of all about our own people, many of whom are at the point of poverty now. The crisis has left a lot of our citizens without their jobs and without any hope to find them it the nearest future; many people are not able to feed their kids and to pay their credits. I think that in such a situation all possible money should be spent to support our own people and to help them overcome the crisis.

Finally, I want to concentrate my attention on the immigration plan of Barack Obama. He has promised to improve the process of immigrants’ legalization and to give the priority of achieving permanent residence permit and citizenship to those immigrants who have been living in the USA for a long time and who have been paying all the taxes. On one hand I find this program to be very useful because a great percentage of our qualified and professional employees, who are really contributing to our society, are immigrants. For example, twenty five percent of our doctors are foreign graduates and most of them are coming from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and forty percent of our engineers have as well come from Asian countries. What I don’t like about this program is that immigrants will be allowed to bring their elderly relatives for a permanent living in the USA. All these relatives will be dependent on the federal support for getting homes, food, healthcare insurance and all other benefits. This will result in extreme extra expenditures for our government and will lead to the aging of our nation.

Therefore, I can draw a conclusion that our new president Barack Obama has prepared a lot of great plans and programs that will contribute to the development of our country and will help it to overcome the crisis. However, I think that some of Obama’s plans are too idealistic and they definitely have certain negative aspects.
