The character trait of introversion- extraversion is a core dimension of human personality. The choice of any personality goes along way in determining a person’s attitude and orientation to the general immediate environment. Choosing between being an introvert or extrovert is rather related to temperament which may be biologically influenced and can be noted from the nature of one’s childhood level of activity.

Introverts get inspired from “within” and are more adjusted towards their inner personal world of imagery, ideas, and reflection. They derive their energy and inspiration from within rather than from the external world. Generally they value their quiet private time; being alone and just meditating and reflective thinking. They are mostly viewed as reserved, aloof, shy distant or plainly quiet.

Such kind of lifestyle is completely strange to me. I am rather an out-going person and I usually derive my motivation from “without” and feel more comfortable and relaxed when dealing with people in a self-confident, friendly and sociable atmosphere. This definitely makes me an extrovert. When I am emotionally demoralized and stressed I always turn to the outside world for relief and consolation. I always get re-energized when I check in for my friends or organize an impromptu party. I guess we are many because majority of my classmates share the same story.

I personally like Carl Chung due to his great minds of psychology. I admire his personality theory especially concept of collective unconsciousness and that of extraversion and introversion. I highly value his view of spirituality as a means to alleviate alcoholism. His approach is very effective especially where other remedies have failed to succeed. He also proposed the use of Art to contain and alleviate certain feelings of fear, anxiety and trauma thus enabling one to heal and restore impaired personal explorations.
