George F. Fill “Drinking Age Paradox” Article Summary – Essay Sample

George F. Fill “Drinking Age Paradox” Article Summary – Essay Sample

The article basically discusses and argues the topic of the age limit for drinking, and confronts the idea of the 21-year-old limit for buying alcoholic beverages in the US.  The essay includes some thoughts of McCardell, a professor of history, who emphasizes the arising problem of excessive and reckless drinking among the teens.

Undoubtedly, the topic of this particular article is related to the our group, as far as “…about 5,000 people under 21 die every year from vehicular accidents, other injuries, homicides and suicides involving underage drinking.” (Will, 2007) This shows that alcoholism is a major problem precisely of the teenagers, not adults.  There is a sound evidence that usually people start drinking exactly at this early age, and either continue this deadly habit, or stop drinking after the first unfortunate incident.  Moreover, drinking affects your health tremendously, especially when your body is developing. “Drinking too much can lead to liver damage, injuries, cancer and death.” (Chandler, 2007)  Not does drinking only affect you personally, but people that you love and care about: “…possibly leading to marital conflict and divorce, or contributing to domestic violence.” (“Alcoholism,” 2007)

As far as you can see, all these evidence clearly shows that during the process of reseraching more about the problems and cosnequences of alcoholism, our group will be able to learn more about this issue, and study its reprecautions on the drinker, society, and other factors.  We hope that a deep and well-prepared research will ensure our own comprehension of the topic and help us make our own minds on the problem of alcoholism.
