Founded in 1919 the Company manufactures and distributes high-end lingerie products. They have several high fashion brands and employ 4500 staff worldwide. Over the years Van de Velde has developed from a small family business into a medium sized international enterprise. Lawson has benefitted the organization in two main areas, namely that of logistics and production. The business of lingerie manufacturing entails the use of many different material components. The various configurations make the manufacturing production line very complex. Historically such items as linking bills of materials to operations lists proved to be a very difficult task. This created problems for the seamstresses in material selection. The Lawson solution has eliminated the problem in it’s’ entirety and this is now a flawless process. The improvements in process have saved both time and cost, thereby enabling the firm to concentrate more on core business components like designing fashion lingerie for the market place. By improving the production design stage Van de Velde has gained greater accuracy and control over the types and qualities of materials used in production. This in turn has resulted in more accurate sales forecasts. The integration of the administrative centre with the distribution centre has increased the efficiency ratios in the Warehouse and reduced the lead times in the shipping and packing process. Lawson was particularly flexible in terms of customizing the software to meet specific needs of the Company and as such it adapted to the Company needs and not the other way round.
