One of Hitler’s main goals in the beginning of World War II was to avoid a two-front situation that occurred in World War I and, eventually, led to a miserable defeat of Germany. Therefore, Hitler was determined to secure his West front expansion by the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact signed in 1939, which stated that the Soviet Union would not engage in the conflict, if Germany starts a war in the West front, and, what is more important, the Soviets promised not to aid the Polish, when Germany attacks Poland. In other words, Hitler was able to safely continue his eastward expansion, without any obstacles from the Soviet part.
