Church and Religion – Essay Sample

Church and Religion – Essay Sample

It is possible to adhere to one religious tradition without rejecting all the rest because there is not only one way to reach god. There are teachings and rules that have been prescribed by all religions of which the ‘Golden Rule’ is the most familiar to most people. What matters in the end is how someone lives his life and fulfills the purpose of him being created. All gods preach love and respect for fellow human beings. In addition, religions are often more similar to each other than they are different. The followers of different religions may give different names to their gods but when they will describe god, they will arrive at almost the same qualities such as all powerful, kind, just, loving, and generous. Religions promote peace and divisions on the basis of religious beliefs violate the original intent of the religions. A generous god should provide more ways to reach him and moreover, actions speak louder than words. To do good deeds and live an exemplary life should have more weight than to proclaim faith and yet fail to follow the teachings of religion properly.

Sufism believes in shunning the worldly life to achieve the highest levels of spirituality. In addition, Sufism requires a commitment from the individuals who wish to follow the Sufi lifestyle and doesn’t impose itself by force. Sufism requires adherents to seek masters and live with them for years. In contrast, other conservative forms of Islam seek to emulate the early models of ‘Khilafat’ where state and the religion are same. Other conservative forms of Islam believe in imposing religious teachings and rules by force and have ambitious political goals to achieve former glory of Islamic Empires. Other conservative forms of Islam do not require the followers to shun worldly life but they do require implementing the teachings of Islam in all affairs of life such as interest free loans and Islamic recommendations of punishment for criminals. Unlike Sufism who shun the attraction of politics and power, other conservative forms of Islam believe that Khalifa should be the head of all Muslim countries in the world and all Muslim countries should be absolutely loyal to each others’ interests against the non-Muslims.
