Way of the Samurai is the video games series in the genre of Action-adventure, developed by Acquire and published by Spike for a game console, the PlayStation 2. The game is set in medieval Japan. A wandering samurai is a central figure. The first game tells the story of the last days of the samurai and takes the players to the days of feudal Japan, torn apart by the enemies. Samurai joins the bloody conflict that threatens to engulf the whole region. The players have to choose between honor and justice or deceit and betrayal. The course of the game depends on this decision.

Way of the Samurai 2 is a continuation; however the action unfolds in medieval Japan. The main character finds himself in a small town Amahara, where people struggle to find peace and reach an agreement between the leaders of the village and a group of rebels Aoto. Further development of the second game again depends entirely on the players and their actions. They may choose their own path and then decide who to fight for to resolve the conflict.

Action in the Way of the Samurai 3 takes place in Japan, during feudalism, particularly Sengoku period. The main character comes to a small region of Gishu Amana. As in previous games, the players have to make choices again and join either the ruling clan Fujimori or clan Ouka. They may also defend civilians.
The last game Way of the Samurai 4 is set in a town called Port Amihama, also torn apart by the conflicts. The players again have to decide the course of the game. They may either join the government-supporting forces, the antigovernment rebels or the British Navy that wants to sign a peace treaty.

The same features are available throughout all of the games. There is always the police, the mafia (Yakuza), and the local residents. The players can choose who they prefer to work for. Accessories and objects that restore health may be bought in the local shops. Movement between locations is shown on the map.

Samurai fights with a sword, and more than 60 different swords are available. They have different combos and options; they can improve or break. As a rule, the fight is one on one, but clashes with several opponents are also possible. There is no “right” way to play this game, only actions and consequences. So the players have to choose wisely, or the consequences will be fatal.
